I have a Intel D845-WN, 1.6 gig P4 motherboard with a KVM, presently IOGEAR GCS612A, and same problem with a Startech SV211MICRO which worked for more than a year, before slowly getting same problem. Both are intelligent 2 port KVMs On cold startup, the computer boots, and the KVM doesn't power up and activate either the monitor , keyboard, or mouse. If another PC connected to the Intel is powered either first or during the boot, the KVM comes alive and is normal. The 2nd PC can be powered down a few seconds later and the remaining intel is normal, including brief power downs or restarts. Switching KVM cables between computers has no effect, the problem stays with the Intel. What is the power source of the KVM? I have heard the mouse port, 5 vdc? I have put a meter on that, and typically have seen 4.97 volts. The Intel motherboard does have their active monitor running when in windows that monitors voltages. It has alarmed at most once a month on either the 3 or 5 volts, being only slightly out of tolerance ( 4 - 6 volts for 5 volt) for a second at a time. This same computer has also had issues with ethernet disabled when in XP PRO, restarting to Kubuntu Linux, Windows disables (RJ-45 leds go out) on exit, and Kubuntu doesn't turn it back on. Haven't found a way in Kubuntu to turn it back on. If Boot XP, until leds are on, and hardware reset, and boot Kubuntu, all is OK.The network controller is Realtek RTL 8138D, I have several different cards, same with all. And yes all the drivers and motherboard BIOS are current versions. Thanks again. :) -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
