I can the the voltage regulator getting hot but the SX chip shouldn't get any hotter than normal unless you are trying to supply that chip directly and the regulator isn't doing it's job. You mentioned that you are testing a bad board. Could it be that the SX chip or regulator is shorted on it and contributing to the excess heat??
