You can ask them to mail you installation CDs or you could download the ISO and burn one yourself. It's main advantage is a relatively easy to use interface and an abundance of software packages, including many electronics tools. If you're interested in learning the guts of Linux, I'd recommend using Slackware, which is more "unix-like". It'll teach you how to use Linux, and not just any specific distribution.
