take a look at http://hyperphysics.phy-astr.gsu.edu/hbase/audio/imped.html which explains impedance matching. As the smart guys before me said ( Jinx and Blick ), the guys at the guitar shop don't know what they are talking about. The main thing is that if you drive too much power through the speakers, it is bye bye speakers. Play at a reasonable level and have fun... crank it up to 11 and watch the cones fly.
