#1 Don't bother with Maplin Electronics - they are now like a 
Tandy/Jaycar/Disk Smith Electronics type operation- shame really they 
used to be brilliant! Anyhow .......

If Henrys Electronics are still around they are/were in the Edgware 
Road - 

Rapid Electronics - but they're in Camulodonum (Colchester the capital 
of Essex to you).

For surplus and strange items - Greenweld Electronics - they're in 
Hoddedsdon Herts (a day trip)

Cricklewood Electronics - They strangely enough are in Cricklewood 
part of west london.

If you want second hand test gear - Stewarts of Reading are your 
people - they are 50 miles out of London going north west - up the M4 
or M3 depending on how the fancy takes you.

There is Bull Electronics as suplus place - but they accused me of 
being a terrorist.

And the bestest (sic) place of all Display Electronics (Distel)  they 
still have stocks of Nixie Tubes - check out their website
