You need to double everything Microsoft says anyway.

But seriously new HDD is so cheap that I will really not to rant on HDD
requirement.

Anyway, you may want to turn of system restore and clean up the
temporary files (you did install some drivers right?). And check the
swap files.

By the way, hopefully you are using NTFS. Not so sure if FAT32
will waste more disk space or not.
