Thanks, I found it myself...  Things are lumping along.
But... the real problem is:
I CAN'T DISABLE Protect bit (CP_3 : Code Protect 00C000-00FFFF)
The assemble barfs out there is NO such bit in the 18F4585!!!
(I tried it.)

Not sure how to fix that, but you can get the popup window back by editing
the settings on the appropriate tab in the programmer settings (and I
assume there's a similar one in the debugger settings).

The other thing would be to disable code protection in your sources, no?
