That's what drives the desire for a car. With a car you can get to where you need to be, in the timeframe you want to be there, without the hassle of sharing space with anyone else. Of course there is the traffic issue because since millions of folks each want to do this each morning/evening the traffic is horrific. I always thought a cool idea would be to have adhoc trains of personal vehicles that travel together during rush hour. Then you get the advantages of the personal vehicle along with some of the benefits of public transportation. It could be sold with the three pronged attack of faster to work/home, keep your personal space, and time to work or relax because while you are attached to the adhoc train, you don't need to drive.
