I wish I could ride a bike to work (it is really not far away) but it is not safe here to ride a bike at all as the road is not friendly to cyclists here in Singapore. I do have a driving license. My wife and I spent about US$4k+ on the driving license tests. The reason for me is that I may need to drive for oversea trip (Example: life is not easy in US without a car). I do not have a car here as I really do not think it is a good idea to have a car here in Singapore because of the high price and excellent public transportation. But maybe that is because that I do not have kids and maid. Many Singaporeans feel they need to buy a car once they have kids and maid. Taxi is relatively cheaper but so often you can not get them when you need them.
