I then was given a private office with a Dell Dimension 2400 (same as Herb G, I think). It worked sporatically on the Dell Dimension. Then it stopped working completely. I re-installed MPLAB7.4 (no luck) then tried 7.2, 7.6a, and 8.0. Between working and not working, the IT personnel installed WinXP Pro (removed WinXP Home Ed). That MIGHT be the significant event... The old laptop went to an employee of a sister company, so I can't get it back. --Bob A > On Nov 28, 2007 8:44 AM, Herbert Graf wrote: > > >> On Tue, 2007-11-27 at 22:00 -0800, Funny NYPD wrote: >> >>> Bob, >>> Can you verify that your office PCs has some kind of remote control/hard >>> >> drive lock, or anti-virus staff installed (in the mean time, they keep >> recording everything you did on the computer)? >> >>> One of my experience shows the IT department tuned the windows xp to >>> >> keep people from accessing local hard drive or installing anything locally. >> And this drove engineers nuts. >> >>> Once that hard drive lock (which is really just a software lock) was >>> >> removed, everything works perfectly.
