I've no idea what what you're talking about !

There is both a separate little grey box with "Note!"
in bold saying :

 > "On a Power-on Reset, these pins are configured
 > as analog inputs and read as =910=92.
 > The comparators are in the off (digital) state."

And there is also a code snippet "EXAMPLE 4-1: INITIALIZING PORTA"
on the same page showing exactly what you have to do.

So in what way should/could Microchip have done this
any more clearer that it is ??
