A signal repeater could be a passive or and active one.
A passive repeater is a receiving antenna connected directly with a
transmitter antenna.
Such repeater is usually difficult for manufacturing because the
coupling must be perfect matched which is impossible, so the loss on
the connection path is usually equal or higher with the signal
strenght at the receive location without using this repeater...
