Howdy folks, I got a Pickit2 after recommendations for people here who said it was one of the few programmers that would probably do what I need, which is program chips that use MCLR for I/O. I'm happy to report that it works great! I plugged it into a zif-socket adapter and programmed a PIC16F819 with no problems! An added bonus is that it's one of the cheapest programmers around, and it will also do debugging - so I'm quite pleased. Thanks for the help.
