That all depends on how bright you can get your projector, and whether  
or not the picture you're projecting then covers only half, or all of  
the side of the barn.  :-)

I mean this somewhat as a joke, of course -- but the ultra-high  
resolutions are needed (and ultra-high resolution source material)  
only if you're going to scale the image up to enormous real-world sizes.

I'm not doing that, but a friend regularly has a movie night on his  
property with a bright projector and a large rock with a flat face  
that is on his property... a campfire, a bunch of friends, and a  
projector with a good movie makes for a good party -- although the HD  
part usually isn't required or noticed much, really... in that  
setting.   :-)
