Wed, This too would be a question for the support group at BasicMicro. I don't use PiKdev, so I can't say. I haven't looked at the protocol going to the programmer as I use the S/W supplied by BasicMicro. It works very well, so I haven't had the need to look further. In addition, since it works so well, I use the extra time to add functionality, change features, and/or debug the apps as appropriate. This doesn't give me much time for experimentation. However, now that you've brought it up, I may take a look just for the heck of it next time I use it. I'm not sure exactly when that'll be though.
