Wisp628 is fine with any Linux that can run Python (no GUI needed). Anything else that can run Python and has Python access to the serial port should be OK with some work. A client once asked me to upgrade my ancient wisp.exe (in Turbo Pascal 6.0) to support a few new PICs (IIRC 12F675 and its relatives) so he could program those with his HP OminGO or whathever he used. It did work, but I doubt he used it very often. But the total package (OminiGo + Wisp628) was quite small. (And he did the programming on that Omni thing too - in Jal.) Still needed an external 5V.
