The S08QD cpus have been around for a while - they were one of the target CPUs for Freescale's "Black Widow" design contest that ended back in July. Freescale's range of 8-pin cpus (S08QD, S08QG, RS08) seemed moderately interesting at the time; the QG08 sets the record (AFAIK) for most flash memory in an 8pin micro (8kB), and with the demise of the ATtiny11, I think the RS08 has hit the "lowest cost micro" (based on Digikey prices in q 100 or less.)
