Does anyone use any particular incarnation of tar and gzip under xp, in a cmd window, that will do both operations with minimal temp space needed? I would like to take a full hard drive (100-200GB) and put the entire thing into a tgz file without making big temp files or bombing at those sizes. I'm backing up several disks to a 500GB disk and by the last few there won't be room for temp files. Zip won't cut it at those sizes, and it creates a temp file as big as the output before creating the actual output file. I'm hoping there is a tar/gz version for win (no GUI) that is _reliable_, portable as compiled, and will just create the output file once? I'm also assuming that any Linux version should be able to read it, even at those sizes, should I use Linux to untar/unzip later...
