Actually it was for a chip on the component side, but indeed upside down (in the sense of: rotated 180 degrees). I don't see why I should make a separate footprint for that - rotating a component on the PCB is easy. But rotating the component did not rotate the text. My customers are often electronic newbies - they will insert a chip wrong if they get a chance to do so. Putting the text upside down (in the same orientation as the text on the chip) might reduce that chance a little bit.
