I'm a bit amazed by that - you certainly can't take photos anywhere near the security area (or customs or baggage reclaim) over here - you'd be whisked away for a little chat if you tried, I'm sure! And at Heathrow, at least, you can't see the screens. I know, I tried! I'd love to see what my luggage looks like in x-ray.
