solved it yet? No...then back up and decide....whats going on here?  I think most of us can attest that even the strange problems..always have a reason behind them, although not always obvious at the time.  I've used the 818 several times and its never given me any problems
   
  Have you put a logic probe or voltmeter on the pin and looked to see whats really on the pin?
   
  Did you enable the internal pullups on it?
   
  Did you disconnect the LED your driving and then looked to see if your reading it correctly?
   
  Guess if your pin bound, you could duplicate the use on a pin but there is usually another way around it
