Subject: [EE] Beginner and required hardware Good Evening everyone, I'm just starting to get into EE. We all have to start somewhere... Being a recent HAM, CALLSIGN? I'm reading the Tech class manual that gives the best intro I've seen so far to basic electronics (transistors, resistors, inducers, diodes, etc) I'd recommend the ARRL Radio Amateur's Handbook. For a beginner what would you all recommend for a basic setup? Know I need to get some kind of breadboard for testing/experimenting, some kind of power supply, and probably a handful of different basic components. Multimeter, Function Generator, Scope, Bi-Polar Power Supply with meters, Soldering Iron, good cutters, needle nose pliers, screwdrivers. Eventually I want to work up to where I can use IC's and Pics specifically. What do you all recommend? READ! Study! Try stuff! Repair what you tried! Feel free to request stuff from my inventory. http://hamradio.cmcorp.com/inventory/Inventory.html One thing that has changed my view a good bit, was that I thought EE was basically the same as programming, just you used different components like you would use different functions. But the logic behind circuits is all done by controlling the flow of electricity. Wow. Can see how even creating a basic adding machine circuit can be complex. Knowing the math of how it works is only half the solution, with experience You learn what practical problems further can complicate even the simplest Design. -Josh * | __O Thomas C.
