>I have not used Zilog?? I would like to take a look... > What are the differences between PIC and the ZILOG Encore chips.. > what are the Pros and Cons??... BIG con: Zilog processors are made by Zilog. After my experiences with them I would need a very very long barge pole before I would touch them again. One other person on this list will advise similarly. I had a major hardware bug in a Zilog processor that was easily replicated and demonstrated and which violated spec sheet claims in a crucial and fatal manner but they basically refused to acknowledge the bug existed. Under certain conditions a Zilog processor with NO reset pin will not start up cleanly - the internal reset circuitry fails to work properly. Utterly fatal. The bug was caused by a die shrink and was not in the ICs originally. It proved impractical to source parts from batches which were OK as suppliers either refused to allow date code selection or managed to supply parts other than what they said they had. Anyone can make bad silicon by mistake. It takes a special sort of person and company to brazenly lie to customers in the face of clear technical proof. I don't care how good their products are or may be now. If you get in trouble and can't trust the vendor then no amount of good products will fix the bad one you happen to be using. YMMV.
