Turning OFF the eyecandy mighty be as close as we can get, but you still pay the disk-space penalty for it being there. I don't THINK there is a lot of stuff in a modern UI that requires the sort of CPU power that it ends up using (ok, it's nice that window contents display as the window is dragged, and that probably takes quite a lot of resources, but I COULD live without it...)
