I routinely use Laptops with dual PCMCIA slots filled with 10Mbps network cards as Firewalls. Being laptops they are low(er) power users than full PC's, and still have all the functionality. A while ago my work's IT dept. tossed out a bunch of PCMCIA cards, and given that 10mbps is more than an internet connection, I am happily using those now. May I recommend that you consider something like IPCop instead of a full linux distro. I think even the most hard-core linux geek will suffer mental anguish using a 350MHz machine (I struggled with my 800MHz laptop before I converted it to a firewall in graphics-only mode....). Linux is good for recycling hardware that is below other OS's minimum specifications, but, you have to be wise about the applications you put the recycled hardware to. Don't want it to make a sour experience. Rolf -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
