For almost 10 years, I'd always sworn by Slackware. But, I can appreciate how 
simple life has become since I started using Kubuntu. It even has geda, sdcc, 
gputils and other useful tools in the _official_ repositories. So, you can 
get down to doing some useful work immediately.
