Hiya-

Alternative solder station is a temp controlled one that I got about a year ago.
I've been quite happy with it. The tips are low cost and there are also a large
selection for this 40W unit.  There is a digital control one for a couple of 
dollars more, but this one fits my needs.  I bought a selection of tips and a
spare heater element all at the same time.  I've not had to replace the tip yet.

This one might say made in China, I'm not really sure.

Look at EBay Sales Item #280140406867,
the QK936A Soldering Station. I just bought
one, NEW, for $42.50 USD plus shipping.

I have played with it (got in a few days ago)
and am delighted with it. It compares to a Haako
soldering station, but is 1/4 the cost.

But the best feature is not obvious... the madell
guys have an enormous selection of tips, some
less than 30mils wide; this beats Weller's tip
selection by a mile.

It does NOT have a "made in china" sticker
anywhere, either, I might add...
