Hiya- Alternative solder station is a temp controlled one that I got about a year ago. I've been quite happy with it. The tips are low cost and there are also a large selection for this 40W unit. There is a digital control one for a couple of dollars more, but this one fits my needs. I bought a selection of tips and a spare heater element all at the same time. I've not had to replace the tip yet. This one might say made in China, I'm not really sure. Here's the link: http://www.mpja.com/prodinfo.asp?number=15140+TL Note that I'm not affliated with mpja other than being a customer for a few years. Look at EBay Sales Item #280140406867, the QK936A Soldering Station. I just bought one, NEW, for $42.50 USD plus shipping. I have played with it (got in a few days ago) and am delighted with it. It compares to a Haako soldering station, but is 1/4 the cost. But the best feature is not obvious... the madell guys have an enormous selection of tips, some less than 30mils wide; this beats Weller's tip selection by a mile. It does NOT have a "made in china" sticker anywhere, either, I might add... --Bob -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
