It's just Vasile being Vasile and finding a contrarian view :-).

He means that if you make the birds a bird-house and put seed in it 
and make sure that the seed is topped up before they eat it all THEN 
they will not eat your figs AND you may learn something about the 
birds as well.

If they are anything like the birds here, they would call their 
friends in to help them eat all the figs and seeds.
