What about a PIC controlled mechanical cat? Just leave one in each tree affected. :') Jim -----Original Message----- From: piclist-bounces@mit.edu [mailto:piclist-bounces@mit.edu] On Behalf Of piclist@mmendes.com Sent: Friday, August 03, 2007 2:33 PM To: piclist@mit.edu Subject: RE: [OT] fig tree protection agents birds Quoting James Newtons Massmind : >> I have fig tree that birds are eating almost all figs not even ready >> to eat and no thing left for us. Back in the mother land my father had fig trees (and all sorts of other fruit trees too) and he used to cover them with nets. Although I have seen them draped over trees in the US, I don't know where you'd purchase it from. I did live in one place though, where my neighbor went to the extent of wrapping each individual pear with a little "net bag". In case you have problem with ants though, the net won't help. Get some grease used to lube mechanical parts and make a ring (about 1/4 inch bead) around the trunk of the tree, it'll keep virtually all non-flying insects from climbing up the trunk to eat your precious fruits. Or you can also use regular pool DE (Diatomaceous Earth, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diatomaceous_Earth) available from your local pool supply store for 5 to 10 bucks a bag to spred it around the base of the tree. The DE gets into the joints of the bugs an jams their joints so they can't move anymore. Good luck. -Mario ---------------------------------------------------------------- This message was sent using IMP, the Internet Messaging Program. -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
