Honestly, I cant give you an authoritative answer, but considering that some USB flash 'drives' or mp3 players have a firmware upgradeable micro controller on it, if those could master their USB bus, there you would have something that could initiate the transfer from a non intelligent peripheral device... Sounds like a worthy hack to be searched form. A USB hub with CPU, memory, keyboard, wifi etc. plugged in could quickly evolve into the next generations of wearable computers...
