I'm currently using the PIC24H in new designs with external USB (FT245R), Ethernet (Lantronix xPort), external graphic LCD drive (CPLD and RAM), and external flash to hold Unicode character bitmaps. Even with the 40MIPS of the 24H, the processor is having a hard time keeping up. I'm also concerned that moving some of these resources on chip will use too many MIPS, leaving me even shorter. So... where should I head when looking for higher performance and more integration than the 24H? People here are suggesting an ARM based device, which I know little about. Is this a good direction? Does anyone have any idea where Microchip is going? Any chance of 80MIPS or more on the 24H? THANKS!
