But, my most recent experience with a more detailed search was due to a 100% mechanical camera (I like "old" cameras) in my carry-on luggage. I guess it completely baffled them on the Xray. They asked to see me take it out. Amazing what sort of confusion a 50 year old camera can cause. :-) In another instance I flew out of Newark NJ after visiting a client. They gave me samples of a product that was a little rubber disk on one end (pressure sensor) with a relatively long flex cable terminating in a 2 pin connector at the other. Had a handfull of these. While they didn't ask to see the parts specifically, they did request I turn on and log into my laptop after xraying it. The laptop and sensor assemblies were in the same bag. Go ahead and take things along. If they ask to search your bag, just let them. If they say you can't take the items, ask them where the postal station is in the airport and ship them ahead or ship them home.
