Nah... it works even when the conduit is a mess.

You can also use fishing line... heavy test.  In fact, we just used 
paper towels balled up about the right size and the fishing line wrapped 
around it... then attach the vaccuum and zoom... away she goes.

Then attach wire to fishing line, and pull... worked great for my 
detached garage...
