OK then, which 'receiver' are you talking about ?

It's not as difficult as it sounds. I modified a VCR remote control
with FETs across the carbon keypads so it could be operated by
a PC's LPT1: (back in the days when you could actually get to
LPT1: on a PC). You could do the same with the buttons in the
camera, probably also carbon. Would just need an IR receiver
and a PIC decoder on the camera, make your protocol or use a
VCR remote. Has all the functions, maybe adapt keys for Zoom
etc
