Real men write in pure machine code :-) By that definition I stopped being a real man long ago - I'm pleased to say. After that almost anything else is easier :-). The MC6800 was especially well suited to it as it grouped it's bit fields in a very consistent manner. Many processors scatter the bits for various fields in various locations and even in "incorrect" orders within the program words making hand compilation and code reading far far harder.
