The original mac os was written in compiled pascal.

The apple][ software was written in asm. For a very interesting
piece of asm software look for Woz's floating point package
(the source is on the net in a bunch of places). To add to the
confusion it was written to accommodate a 6502 that did not
have a unconditional branch.
