Well, it's all very simple, then, really. You see, since this technology is only a recent development, the energy source it harvests has never been harvested before. Presumably, whatever that energy source is, it has existed since the beginning of the universe ca. 15 billion years ago. Since this device is unfettered by the restrictions of time (and space, too I'd guess, since I seem to recall something about time and space being pretty closely linked), it can filch this energy from the past, from everywhere in the universe, all at once. And the past will never run out of energy, right? Sounds like something Douglas Adams wrote about. And, like fetid dingo's kidneys, to boot.
