I've been learning it as an alternative to OrCAD SDT/386+ and EAGLE. So far, I 
like it.

EAGLE excels for smallish designs, but KiCAD seems to be a more viable 
proposition for bigger/more complex designs. The autorouter is (from what I've 
heard) pretty basic, but the framework and all the basic features are there.

The thing I really like about KiCAD is that it behaves similarly to SDT/386, 
barring the fact that it's got a nice GUI in front of it (and the option to 
unhide power pins!).

I've got a couple of designs in the pipeline, all of which are being designed 
with KiCAD. I'll pass final judgement when I've had a good play.
