That's easy. You can see the cable on the surface to the buoy. It probably also carries WiFi. Under water in the habitat, he used a waterproof laptop. So the network was probably connected using the WiFi system *in* the habitat. Anyway I calculated that the algae coil weighs about a ton (1000kg). That deletes the possibility to use such a device in near future manned missions in space - it would require the lifting a ton of water into orbit per person. On the other hand, with multiple crews (reuse) like the ISS it could be interesting. Adding 4 tons of water to a 200 (?) ton behemoth is not impossible. And it would likely be less balky than their present Russian Roulette oxygen generator I think.
