I'd call him at his home (MPs and even the PM at the time were in the phone book) as a columnist for Bits & Bytes magazine, and he'd talk at great length about finance in general and, my interest, R&D. Very knowledgeable and precise. The last time I talked to him was on his last Sunday talk-back program on Radio Pacific. I always remember him saying towards the end of the show "I'm a tired little boy and I'm off home to bed" (it was only 5pm). Then he died. I was no fan of the National (cf Conservative/Republican) Party but found that afternoon and the time shortly after quite poignant -- http://www.piclist.com PIC/SX FAQ & list archive View/change your membership options at http://mailman.mit.edu/mailman/listinfo/piclist
