A predictable slaughter by one side over the other is too
unsatisfying

When F1 was as boring as heck (Ferrari 1-2 and nobody
passed), I'd be hoping for something to happen to break the
monotony. OTOH racing was often so tight in IRL that you
don't want anything to happen that breaks the tension

Now, if super-yachts could do 350kph......
