Report part 2:

I took the motor apart; you may see images at:

The bearing doesn't feel as smooth as the new one, but at the same time 
it isn't really bound up either.

Every once in a while it makes a soft "eerk" sound when rotated by hand.

    * Can you tell me how to get it further apart?
    * Can you tell me how and with what to lubricate it?

I'm just about ready to commit to the new motor.......
