I vaguely recall there being an article in Circuit Cellar from about a decade ago which used an 8051?? to interpret the IR commands sent by a standard Sony remote, and control a video/audio multiplexer for the home. Time for the updated PIC version with component/composite/Y-C/surround sound capability. (Or just buy the Philips one at Walmart for $40.).
