Well, The USA has 'corrected' some spelling to the way it is pronounced, but 
done their own 'silly' things with spelling and pronunciation ;)

solder - said as sodder
Kansas - said as Can-sass - OK that's fine
Arkansas - said as Are-can-saw, why not spell it Arkansaw?
asthma - said as az-ma.
