Thanks everyone for your comments. I've already checked out the above link 
and that seems the closest to some nice raw ASM code I've found at the 
moment (I was reading through it earlier today).

I've also downloaded the C compiler from Microchip and had a play with the 
CDC firmware they provide but I'm still trying to get my teeth round some of 
the C coding.
