I recall him sticking forks into each end of a
"plumps as you cook them" hot dog, then plugging in
a line cord and connecting clips to each fork.

The dog plumped at each end, and then the heat moved 
towards the center, at which time the dog was "done".

It was a great demonstration, but probably couldn't be
repeated now without safety disclaimers.


He fed the curiosity that still drives me today.
I am in his debt for that.
