Thanks Dario, think you may have nailed it. I'll have to re-read
the oscillator section. I dropped in an 8MHz and the two port
pins came up. Looks like it was being over-clocked with 9.8

If that is the case what'll probably end up in there is a 7.37. At
the moment the board and code is stripped back to the basics
so I can sort this out. Will let you know for sure if it was a fix
after I put Humpty back together
