I used Gmail POP3 service with OE and now with Windows Mail in Vista (and I've used it with Thunderbird and Mulberry). No problems to speak of. Looks like you have the correct POP3 server, correct port, correct security. Assuming you're using the full email addy for login (mcmahon@gmail.com instead of just mcmahon), I'd say your next step should be to remove the router.
