I'd suggest you not bother with the 12C508 unless it's programmed.
It's a one-time programmable device. Get it wrong and that's about
it (it isn't quite, without getting too complicated)

You would be much better to get a Flash device, ie something with
'F' in the middle. 12F629 or F675, 16F628, F88, or even the F84.
Plenty of mid-range devices to choose from

I've personally not used the DS1820, I know some here have. They
can advise you better about the coding required
