Dear All, I'm new to this list as well as to the world of electronics, so please pardon my ignorance. I am reading up on electronics by scanning the Net for information and will probably buy a reference book on Electronics soon (once I find a decent book - any suggestions?). I managed to google a temperature sensor/data logger and I do have the parts list and I have a Digi-key catalog(2005). [Got this list from http://quozl.netrek.org/ts/] * preprogrammed PIC 12C509 microcontroller chip, * 1N4003 diode, * 78L05 voltage regulator, * 100uF electrolytic capacitor, * n+1 10uF tantalum capacitors 10V, * n DS1820 sensors, * n 2.2k pull-up resistors, * printed circuit board, * female 9-pin or 25-pin D connector, * cable. Can someone advise me as to how to look up these parts? I managed to find the Dallas DS18S20 sensor (on the web, it says DS1820, but I can't find that and somewhere I read that DS1820 = DS18S20, is this right?) and also the PIC12C509A chip(but it doesn't say if it's already pre-programmed. (In the case that it hasn't been pre-programmed, should i find the pre-programmed one or the 'empty' and program it myself using a programmer?) I can practically say I don't know assembly, but am willing to learn. I've tried finding the parts and have come up with the following lookups: 16V 100uF cap = P944-ND 25V 10uF = P916-ND DB9 female right angle connector = A23301-ND 1N003 = ?? ( I thought it'd be 1N4003MSTR-ND, or the 1N4003DICT-ND, but these are rectifiers and not diodes or is there a difference?) 78L05 volt. reg. = MC78L05ACPRA/E 10uF tantalum capacitor 10V = P2026-ND Any help very much appreciated.
